How to Make the Most of the Builders’ Show

The International Builders’ Show – IBS – is less than a week from now! After the event went virtual last year, we are beyond thrilled about a live in-person event. I am also super excited because it is in my home state – just a couple of hours down the road. But anyone who has gone to the show knows that there is a lot to take in, so how do you make the most of it? I want to share my favorite things about the show and would love to hear from you of any events I should keep an eye out for!

The People

This should come as no surprise, but I love seeing people live and in-person. I start my IBS week on Sunday and Monday in committee meetings. This is where I exchange ideas with builders and designers from all over the country. For me, face to face is just more meaningful than virtual. There’s nothing more fun than bumping into a familiar face or meeting fantastic new people on the show floor, so look for me!

The Education

I love the educational programs IBS puts together. Of course, my favorite courses have to do with design. I am fortunate to be making two education presentations this year and one presentation in the Design Central. Collaborating with other speakers is a tremendous learning opportunity for myself and, hopefully, our audiences. In between my presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday, you will find me at other educational programs to help me stay on top of my game. Let me know if you or someone you know are presenting, I’ll try to make it!

The Awards Ceremonies

Live and in-person award shows are far more impactful (and fun) than a virtual event. I will be attending The Nationals Tuesday night, which is always a great time (fingers crossed that HDM may be lucky enough to win our second Nationals trophy!).

Wednesday night is the Best in American Living Awards. As vice chair of the awards program, I will be helping pass out the awards as I do my best Vana White impression (If only I had her figure!).

The Trade Show

Of course, there is the trade show itself – which is huge and can be overwhelming. To be effective, two things are required. First, a game plan to determine what you would like to see and where it is. Second, a very comfortable pair of shoes . Here again, it is so much more fun to see the actual product, touch and feel the texture and see the actual colors without fear that your computer monitor is manipulating the color.

Show House
The New American Home is always a treat to go see. After all, this is where the education and the products come together to produce a real, three-dimensional house – packed with the latest design trends, new products, and ideas.

There is no shortage of things to do at IBS. What is your favorite? Send me your suggestions. And if you’re going, please stop by one of my presentations or events – I love nothing more than connecting with my readers!

I hope to see you next week! Thanks
