With less than 3 weeks until the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, I’m feeling both excitement and panic as I scramble to finalize my speeches. Beyond that, I have found that planning out the week ahead of time allows me to get the most out of the show. Here is a quick rundown of HDM’s plans at IBS 2019. I’d love to hear your own plans!
I’m thrilled to be involved in my first master session, “2019 Design Playbook: The Styles, Trends, Colors & Finishes You Need to Know”, along with Mary Jo Peterson, Doris Pearlman, Rick Overby, and Steven Dewan. I will be discussing the design techniques and strategies for budget-friendly homes. I hope to see some familiar shining faces in the audience!
Tuesday is my speech with Kay Green, “Must-Have Design Ideas for Today’s Busy Lifestyle”. It has been years since I’ve done a speech with Kay and I absolutely love her enthusiasm. No doubt, this will be a fun session!
Tom will be conducting plan reviews on Tuesday, February 19 from 3:30-4:30 PM. Each session is like a 30 minute charrette, so they can be very valuable.
I’m thrilled to be attending the Nationals Gala this year. We are finalists on two houses this year including the NEXT Adventure Home with Taylor Morrison and the Enthusiast model with Elevate Homes. But I’m most excited because we are finalists for our blog series – like the one you’re reading now! Who would’ve thought? Thank you to all of you who have been faithful followers.
We have decided to divide and conquer, so Tom Devin and Justin Bucy will be attending the NAHB Best of 55+ Housing Awards. Several of our houses have been awarded silvers and fingers crossed that our client will get community of the year.
I’m looking forward to seeing the 2019 Builder Magazine and KB Home ProjeKt house. It looks like another great design and a wonderful learning opportunity about what’s next in housing.
Las Vegas is always a great place to see new and different architecture. This year I volunteered to be a host on the bus tour. Be sure to join me!
Anyone who has stayed through the entire show knows how exhausting it can be. I will be splitting my time between the 55+ and Design Centrals. These are great places to network with industry friends and perfect for having a seat and taking a breather.
The Show Floor
Everyone should experience the show floor. The atmosphere is simply electric. Granted, it can be overwhelming, but the floor is an outstanding learning opportunity if you plan ahead. One year, I was a Best of IBS judge and toured a variety of booths and products. This provided me the opportunity to get more in-depth information about a variety of vendors and products that I might have otherwise overlooked. If you ever get the chance, I would definitely recommend volunteering for this.
Have you planned out your trip? Certainly, I can give you some pointers to prepare, but is there anything that I should keep an eye out for? I’ll be in Vegas from Sunday through Thursday with not a dull moment in between. I’m exhausted just thinking about all there is to do, but these few days help set the tone for the rest of the year. I plan on making the most of it and I hope to see you there!
