Kitchen Rehab - The Drinking Problem

Coffee, tea, water, milk (and all of its endless variations), juices, sports drinks, beer and wine just crack the surface in our homes... Where are these beverages stored? The garage? We can do better than that!

If your family all drinks the same thing, you are the envy of the neighborhood. Raising a family, I could have filled my entire refrigerator with the random beverages each family member drinks. That’s fine, if you don’t eat food.

Then there are the hot beverages. The simple coffee pot has grown into a full-blown cafe. There’s the coffee grinder, espresso machine that only one person in the house knows how to use, K-cup brewing system featuring 14 varieties of coffee... Don’t forget the creamers and sweeteners.

Who could forget the wine? The casual wine drinker stores the reds at room temperature and refrigerates the whites. Some take it a step further by storing wines in a controlled environment for each.

Our houses have a drinking problem: Where do we store everything without cluttering our refrigerators and cook space? We have a drinking solution!

Enter the beverage station just off the kitchen. With its own refrigerator, the kitchen refrigerator now has breathing room while thirsty family members can stay clear of the food prep area, which now has freed up counter-space with the coffee out of the way.

If the house water is filtered, a small bar sink is perfect for filling the coffee pot. It is also handy for pouring out leftover drinks or cleaning the inevitable spills. Houses without filtration must consider where the five-gallon water bottle dispenser can go.

For the adult drinks, I like the idea of converting the butler pantry (because who still has a butler?) into the adult beverage station. Perhaps there’s an under counter wine cooler and an ice maker for hard liquor drinkers. You’ll need a small counter top for opening the wine and aerating the bottle. Place glass storage within easy reach to minimize accidents.

Yes, our homes have a drinking problem. The beverage center is a functional and attractive solution to win over prospective buyers!
